However, I disliked everything else about it. Essentially I found it really disturbing and am amazed at how many people are saying in their reviews how beautifully shot it is, as it isn’t even that. I have two main gripes, one was the filming of Amy Adams. Perhaps the director or cinematographer adores Amy Adams, but the obsessive framing as if she was a Greek goddess was too much and made her seem unreal. SPOILER ALERTSecondly, this film is about revenge by the jilted ex husband of the main character, Susan, played by Amy Adams. His revenge comes in the form of a novel, which the ex husband sends to Susan to read, in which the characters very clearly and explicitly represent him, his ex wife (Susan) and her daughter with her new husband. The wife and daughter are brutally abducted, raped and murdered in the novel. Susan knows this is a referencing her and her daughter (she checks her daughter is ok) but she still arranges to meet her ex. Infuriating and ridiculous.
